Lakh and crore in motion graphics
Why 750000 should read 7,50,000 in Pakistan, and how to switch a clip to lakh-style number grouping.
Published 2026-10-27
Pakistani readers group digits differently from the Western style. After the first three digits from the right, they group in twos: 7,50,000 (seven lakh fifty thousand) and 1,25,00,000 (one crore twenty-five lakh). The Western style writes the same numbers as 750,000 and 12,500,000.
Why it matters on screen
A price or a statistic in an unfamiliar grouping makes viewers stop and re-read. On a three-second beat that is too long, so the number should look the way your audience writes it.
In Obtain Motion
A clip has a number style setting with two choices, Western and lakh. Set it to lakh and counting numbers, prices and charts use the lakh grouping. The CSV import for charts accepts both groupings.
Quick reference
- 1 lakh = 100,000 (1,00,000)
- 10 lakh = 1,000,000 (10,00,000)
- 1 crore = 10,000,000 (1,00,00,000)
